Step 1: Initialize the Git repository

  • In the terminal or command prompt, navigate to the directory where you want to push the code.
  • Run the following command to initialize the Git repository:

Step 2: Create a GitHub repository

  • On the GitHub website, click the ' ' button in the upper right corner and select New repository.
  • Enter a name, description (optional) for the repository and click Create repository.

Step 3: Associate the local repository with the GitHub repository

  • Run the following command to associate the local repository with the GitHub repository:

  • Replace <user></user> with your GitHub username and <repository></repository> with the name of the repository.

Step 4: Add and submit changes

  • Use the following command to add the changes you want to push to the Git staging area:

  • Use the following command to commit the staging changes to the local repository:

     <code>git commit -m "Commit message"</code>
  • Replace "Commit message" with the short description you submitted.

Step 5: Push changes

  • Run the following command to push changes to the GitHub repository:

     <code>git push origin main</code>
  • main is the name of the default branch on GitHub. If you are using another branch, replace it accordingly.

troubleshooting

  • Permission denied : Make sure you have cloned the GitHub repository to your local machine and have the appropriate push permissions.
  • Invalid remote repository : Make sure you entered the correct GitHub repository URL.
  • Up to date (already latest) : If you do not make any new changes, you will see this message. Just pull (pull) remote changes:
