Deion Sanders, Colorado Buffaloes Bounce Back with 34-7 Win over Arizona Wildcats
Following a Week 7 loss against the No. 18 Kansas State Wildcats, coach Deion Sanders and the Colorado Buffaloes bounced back in Week 8 with a win 34-7 win over the Arizona Wildcats at Arizona Stadium.
No. 25 Colorado bounced back from a Week 7 loss to No. 18 Kansas State with a 34-7 win over Arizona on Saturday in Tucson, Arizona.
After losing the coin toss, Arizona elected to kick, giving Colorado the ball first. However, the Wildcats attempted a surprise onside kick, which failed and gave Sanders and the Buffaloes offense the ball at the Arizona 46-yard line. They scored a touchdown 2.5 minutes later.
Following the game, Coach Prime discussed the surprise onside kick by Arizona, which he found "disrespectful."
"It's kinda disrespectful, too," Deion Sanders said in a postgame press conference. "We prepare for a lot of situational football throughout the week."
Sanders and company had the last laugh, dominating the Wildcats in almost every aspect of the game. One of the few negatives for the Buffaloes was the number of turnovers, but Arizona also had three.
With wide receiver/cornerback hybrid Travis Hunter missing most of the game due to an injury, quarterback Shedeur Sanders still managed to lead the Buffaloes offense effectively. The Senior from Dallas, TX, completed 23-of-33 passes for 250 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions.
In Hunter's absence, fellow wide receiver LaJohntay Wester, who caught the game-tying Hail Mary touchdown a few weeks ago against Baylor, stepped up and had eight catches for 127 yards.
The Colorado defense also played well on Saturday, forcing three turnovers and sacking the Arizona quarterback seven times.
The Buffaloes are now one win away from securing bowl eligibility. Sitting at 5-2 overall and 3-1 in Big 12 play, Coach Prime and company will face another conference opponent, the Cincinnati Bearcats, in Week 9. The Wildcats dropped to 3-4 and 1-3 in conference play following the loss and will host the West Virginia Mountaineers next.
