GM just made good on its promise to start the Equinox EV sales with its most affordable trim, and the base Equinox LT SUV is now the cheapest electric vehicle on sale in the US.
The 2025 Equinox LT can be had for just $27,495 with tax credit, breaking the $30,000 price barrier for the first time.
Even at the regular$34,995 starting price before any federal or state incentives, the Equinox LT costs ten grand less than the cheapest Model Y, while still offering more than 300 miles of range, just like the Tesla.
In fact, the FWD Equinox LT offers 319 miles of range on the EPA testing standard, or the same as the Model Y Long Range. Moreover, it comes with a nearly 18-inch display and ambient lighting. A Convenience Package of options brings its price up to the Model Y level, yet the Equinox LT then comes with ventilated seats, HUD, 21-inch wheels, and a hands-free liftgate. This option package also includes GM's Adaptive Cruise Control Super Cruise self-driving option on "compatible roads."
Unlike Teslas, the cheapest EV in the US comes withAndroid Auto and support for a full suite ofGoogle services like Maps or Play. As for the direct Equinox LT vs Model Y dimensions and specs comparison, the Chevy is slightly larger than the Model Y, with a longer wheelbase, but smaller trunk capacity. It has a less powerful electric motor, too, and slower up to 150 kW DC fast charging.
The Equinox EV comes with 8 Years/100,000 Miles battery warranty and buyers can choose from no less than eight different color options. The only thing left to know now is how is Chevy able to sell a 300-mile electric vehicle at such a low price, unless it is selling it at cost or with negligible markup.
