Honor releases first global software update to Magic V3 with promise of improved camera and security features

Honor is not hanging around with the Magic V3. While the Magic V2 took six months to receive a global release, its successor started shipping across Europe, the UK and the Middle East only two months after its Chinese debut. Added to that, Honor has already issued the first global update for its latest foldable, which arrived on our unit earlier today.

As the photo below shows, the update keeps the Magic V3 running MagicOS 8.0.1. However, it upgrades the device from 8.0.1.153 to 8.0.1.155, after which Honor adds 'C431E2R3P1'. Despite the small bump in revision number, 8.0.1.155 is over a 1 GB download. Nonetheless, the changes from 8.0.1.153 appear to be relatively minor.

For example, Honor has incorporated AI Eraser and Face-to-face translation, which are already available on rivals like the Galaxy Z Fold6 (curr. $1,599.99 on Amazon). Moreover, Honor claims to have improved its default camera and notes apps, albeit without providing any specifics. Added to that, one must now authenticate with biometrics or a password when switching between USB connection modes.

Furthermore, Honor has upgraded the Magic V3 to the August 2024 set of security patch, having shipped the device with July 2024 equivalents. Unfortunately, the device will not get past the May 1 Google Play System Update. Please see our Magic V3 review for our full thoughts of Honor's latest ultra-slim foldable.
