Deal | Update | LG UltraGear OLED 1440p, 240 Hz ultrawide gaming monitor with near-perfect DCI-P3 colours beats Amazon pricing with LG discount code

September 06 update: On top of an identical discount to the Amazon price, LG's official online store now has a discount code for another $100 off, bringing the LG Ultragear OLED 34GS95QE down to just $599.99. Enter discount codeOMSCLV219PFDIL for the extra $100 off.

Amazon has been on a roll of late, with recent monitor deals dropping some excellent affordable monitors to new low prices. TheLG UltraGear OLED 34GS95QE is getting the same treatment, with a 46% Amazon discount dropping its price to $699.99. While the 34-inch ultrawide monitor is designed for gaming, its 98.5% coverage of the DCI-P3 colour space and exceptional colour accuracy out of the box make it a contender for a do-it-all monitor.

The LG UltraGear OLED 34GS95QE uses the same panel as the Asus ROG Swift OLED PG34WCDM (curr. $899 on Amazon). However, the LG UltraGear OLED comes in at $200 less than its Asus counterpart while delivering basically identical technical performance and similar features in a more subdued design.

As for specs and performance, the LG UltraGear OLED34GS95QE has a resolution of 3440×1440p, a 21:9 aspect ratio, and 240 Hz maximum refresh rate. The 1440p resolution should allow most modern midrange and high-end GPUs to push frame rates in most competitive games right up to that 240 Hz limit, but when frame rates dip, the LG UltraGear OLED has both AMD FreeSync Premium Pro and Nvidia G-Sync. LG claims that the UltraGear OLED 34 has a peak brightness of 400 nits and covers 98.5% of the DCI-P3 colour space and has factory calibration to bring deltaE values to below two.

A comprehensive review by RTings actually backs up LG's claims, with the monitor able to cover 96.9% of the DCI-P3 colour space, falling short of the 98.5% figure by only 1.6%. Average deltaE values were also impressive, at 1.78. These test results make the LG UltraGear OLED 34 a very capable monitor, both in terms of reproducing vibrant images, but also when it comes to colour-critical photo and video editing workflows.

Brightness may be the LG UltraGear OLED 34's biggest weakness, however, since, although it exceeded LG's claimed 400-nits peak brightness and 250-nit full-display brightness, a maximum 25% window brightness of 416 nits, although very usable, is not exceptionally bright. Likewise, the peak 2% window brightness measured in at just 577 nits, which is very respectable, especially at the current Amazon price, but not earth-shattering.

The LG UltraGear OLED 34 also has a number of creature comforts, like picture-in-picture and picture-by-picture modes, which allow you to show two separate display outputs on one monitor as if they were either floating or tiled windows.
