Trinbago Knight Riders (TKR) registered their first win of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2024 season after defeating St Kitts and Nevis Patriots (SKNP) by 44 runs in a high-scoring encounter at the Warner Park in St Kitts on Tuesday (June 18).
After being put into bat, TKR openers Sunil Narine and Jason Roy provided a brisk start, adding 44 runs in the powerplay. While Narine smashed 38 runs off 19 balls, Roy struggled to get going and was eventually dismissed by Anrich Nortje for 12.
Nicholas Pooran, who was promoted up the order, played a blistering knock of 97 runs off 43 balls, hitting nine sixes and seven boundaries. He shared a 122-run stand with Keacy Carty (73* off 35 balls) to propel TKR to a massive total of 250-4 in 20 overs.
In reply, SKNP openers Andre Fletcher and Kyle Mayers were dismissed cheaply by Joshua Little, leaving the Patriots reeling at 6-2. However, Evin Lewis (39 off 23 balls) and Mikyle Louis (56 off 38 balls) steadied the ship with a 56-run partnership.
After Lewis was dismissed by Waqar Salamkheil, Louis and Tristan Stubbs (39 off 19 balls) kept the Patriots in the hunt, taking them past the 100-run mark in the 12th over. But once again, Narine (2-24) and Terrance Hinds (1-30) struck at crucial junctures to derail the Patriots' chase.
Despite a late cameo from Ryan John (28 off 15 balls), the Patriots fell 44 runs short of the target, finishing on 206-8 in their allotted 20 overs.
With this win, TKR moved to the third spot in the CPL 2024 standings, while SKNP remained winless after two matches and are placed at the bottom of the table.
