Xiaomi has announced an update for the Smart Home Screen 10 and the Smart Home Screen Pro 8 devices. The software, version 1.2.24, is rolling out in phases to customers in China, with a new feature that leaked earlier this year.
The two Smart Home Screens now allow users to make and receive two-way video or voice calls via WeChat. There is also support for WeChat notes attached to contacts, which you can customize as needed. Plus, you can use the Xiao AI voice assistant to start a call. It appears that these new features are free to use for the first year, but a subscription will be required after that point; the pricing here remains unclear.
The Xiaomi Smart Home Screen 10 launched in 2022 with a 10.1-in (~25.6 cm) HD touchscreen display and an integrated 5MP camera. Though this WeChat functionality is new, you already take video calls on the device. To receive software version 1.2.24, Xiaomi notes that users must ensure they have installed the latest version of WeChat and the Mijia app. The update will be shared with customers OTA, with the company noting it will be “fully launched”, presumably meaning the roll-out is complete, on September 30th at the latest.
