Burleson began her career with the Anderson Companies in 1986, joining the Anderson News Company before being named president of Whitman Publishing in 2001.

Throughout her nearly four decades with the company, Burleson has held various leadership positions and overseen several milestones for Whitman, including H.E. Harris’ acquisition of Whitman Publishing from St. Martin’s Press, the relocation of company headquarters, the purchase of the formerly named Baltimore Coin Show, and navigating the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic. Most recently, she played a key role in Whitman’s acquisition by CDN Publishing in November 2023.
