A few days ago, Game Science released the benchmark test software for "Black Myth: Wukong". During the test, we found that when an external monitor is connected (the independent display is directly connected to the video output interface), if the desktop resolution of the monitor is larger than the in-game resolution The frame rate of the game will drop very significantly, and in some cases the frame rate will even drop by half.
So we restarted the test and found out the reason. This article is about my last test: "2 resolutions x 13 image qualities = 26 test results, RTX 4060 in "Black Myth" What is the frame rate in "Wukong"? 》Correction and errata, I would like to apologize to everyone here first. Theoretically speaking, the RTX 4060 in "Black Myth: Wukong" will be much higher than my previous test results. I will release the corrected test results to everyone first. :
Test model configuration diagram:
1. The reason for the problem
The reason for the problem lies in the resolution of the desktop. In order to facilitate the testing of game performance at various resolutions in my daily work, I will connect an external 4K display to the models with GPU direct-connected video output interface for testing. This time is no exception, but this time the problem just happened. on top of this. Under normal circumstances, my monitor desktop is set to 4K resolution, but when testing "Black Myth: Wukong", I ignored that there is no "Full Screen" option in the image quality settings of "Black Myth: Wukong", only "Borderless" and "Window" mode. During the test, I always turned on the borderless mode. In the borderless mode, if the resolution selected in the game is lower than the desktop resolution, in some games it will cause the actual game rendering resolution. It is inconsistent with the resolution selected in the game, causing the game frame rate to be inconsistent with the actual situation. However, the difference in frame rate is generally not that big.
The tests in my previous article were all conducted at desktop resolution 4K and game resolution 2K/1080P. This resulted in the frame number of "Black Myth: Wukong" being skewed compared to the actual performance. Low, possibly due to the effect of DLSS. When the desktop resolution of "Black Myth: Wukong" is higher than the game resolution, the frame rate is particularly reduced. In my test, the gap even reached about 50%, for example Below are two screenshots of test results. You can’t even find any difference in the image quality column on the right side of the screen, but there is a huge gap in frame numbers.
Not unified desktop resolution
Unified desktop resolution
I would also like to remind everyone that it is best to unify the desktop resolution and game resolution when playing "Black Myth: Wukong". The full-screen exclusive mode will be updated after the official version of "Myth: Wukong" is launched, so you can also adjust to the full-screen exclusive mode.
2. New test results
After unifying the desktop resolution and game resolution, I conducted a new round of testing. The final test results are as follows:
Compared to the previous results :
Overall, there has been a very obvious improvement. I also have the image quality setting suggestions for the RTX 4060 model in "Black Myth: Wukong" given in my previous article. The following conclusion is modified:
The performance of the RTX 4060 GPU in "Black Myth: Wukong" can be fully turned on to the highest image quality + the highest gear ray tracing. With the DLSS and frame generation which are not very high gears, you can enjoy the highest image quality. At the same time, it has a smooth gaming experience with an average of more than 60 frames. This game is not too CPU-intensive. I personally guess that a CPU such as i5-12400/i5-12600K/R5 7500F/R5 5600 can also run perfectly.
The conclusion of "frame generation is very important" remains unchanged. Frame generation can bring a very obvious improvement to the frame rate in any case. For example, the frame rate is even lower after only turning on supersampling resolution to 60. At the same time, the ultra-high gear ray tracing + frame generation frame rate is turned on. It can be seen that in Black Myth: Wukong, the frame generation effect is extraordinary.
If you are sensitive to the frame rate, it is recommended to use high image quality. The frame rates of ultra-high image quality and extreme film and television quality are not very wide.
If you want to pursue high image quality, it is also because the frame number difference between ultra-high image quality and film and television ultra-high quality is not big. It is recommended to skip ultra-high image quality and directly use film and television ultra-high quality.
It is very important to keep the resolution of the desktop and the game consistent. If you play "Wukong Black: Myth" in 2K or 1080P on a 4K desktop like I did before, the frame rate reduction will be very obvious, and you need to make special adjustments.
3. Written at the end
Sorry for conveying wrong information to everyone due to my negligence before. Since there is not much difference between the current generation mobile version and the desktop RTX 4060, friends who use the desktop RTX 4060 can also refer to my article. According to the modified test results of this article, generally speaking, the graphics performance of RTX 4060 can run smoothly at the highest image quality without worrying about performance issues.
Finally, I would like to say sorry to everyone!
