According to the latest "Large-size Display Panel Market Tracking Report for the First Quarter of 2024" released by Omdia, shipments of large-size OLEDs above 9 inches in 2024 are expected to increase by 124.6% year-on-year.
Affected by the global economic recession, demand for high-end display panels has declined, resulting in large-size OLED shipments falling by 25.7% year-on-year in 2023.
The only exception is OLED displays. Su Jinguan, senior principal analyst of Omdia Display Research, pointed out that tablet OLED shipments are expected to increase by 294.0% year-on-year in 2024, mainly due to the launch of the new Apple iPad Pro OLED version. OLED manufacturers also plan to increase notebook OLED shipments by 152.6% year-on-year during the same period.
Su Jinguan said that OLED display shipments are also expected to increase by 139.9% year-on-year in 2024. Although OLED TV display panel shipments are expected to increase by 34.8% year-on-year in 2024, this number is still lower than 2022 levels.
It is expected that in 2024, Samsung Display will occupy the largest share of large-size OLED panel shipments (52.5%), followed by LG Display (33.1%) and Hehui Optoelectronics (10.1%).
Korean manufacturers are expected to dominate large-size OLED shipments with an 85.6% share this year, down from 88.2% in 2023.
The reason for this decline is the rise of panel manufacturers in mainland China, whose market share is expected to grow from 11.8% in 2023 to 14.4% in 2024.
