Garmin brings new bug fixes to mid-range smartwatches with new software update

Garmin's Beta Program has been unusually quiet of late. Arguably, this is more true for the Instinct 2 series than many other currently supported Garmin smartwatches, such as Fenix 6 and Fenix 7 models. Specifically, Garmin has only released one beta update in the last two months until now, which arrived as Beta Version 16.02.

As such, the Instinct 2 series remains on v15.08 as its most recent stable update. However, the company has now introduced Beta Version 16.06, which Garmin claims makes the following changes from v15.08:

  • Shared Change Log:
    • Fixed issue with Battery Saver watch face where time would not update correctly.
    • Fixed issue where inReach screen could be displayed after using the Health Monitoring app.
    • Fixed issue where data could be covered up on activity summary page.
    • Fixed issue where high/low temperature could be truncated on Morning Report page.
    • Fixed issue where Bouldering rest timer could be truncated.
    • Fixed issue where Strength activity timer could be truncated.
    • Fixed issue with Sight' N Go hot key when accessed outside of an activity.

  • Instinct 2/2s/2X only Change Log:
    • Fixed issue with CIQ watch faces in Watch Face menu.

With that being said, Beta Version 16.06 makes only minor improvements over its direct predecessor, Beta Version 16.02. Specifically, Garmin states it has resolved an issue that affected using the Sight' N Go hotkey outside of an activity for all Instinct 2 series smartwatches. On top of that, all but the Instinct Crossover (curr. $449.99 on Amazon) should have received a bug fix for an outstanding issue relating to CIQ watch faces in the Watch Face menu. Please see Garmin's forum post for more details.
